JOB GOAL
The Supervisor of Safety and Security supports the implementation and coordination of district safety and security practices to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.


This position supervises district safety personnel and assists in coordinating safety procedures, emergency preparedness planning, and security initiatives across the district. The Supervisor serves as a key liaison between the school district and local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency management organizations, and other public safety partners.


The Supervisor of Safety and Security assists district leadership in maintaining compliance with Ohio school safety laws, Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) guidance, and emergency planning requirements. This role supports the implementation of district safety programs, emergency operations planning, behavioral threat assessment procedures, and safety training initiatives in collaboration with district administrators and building principals.


The Supervisor is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. This individual promotes accountability, proactive safety practices, and collaboration while representing the Licking Heights Local School District with professionalism and integrity.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Safety, Education Administration, or a related field preferred (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, school safety, emergency management, or security supervision preferred
  • Valid concealed carry permit, eligibility to obtain one, or lawful authorization to carry a firearm, preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of school safety best practices, Ohio school safety laws, and Ohio School Safety Center guidance
  • Familiarity with Emergency Operations Planning, behavioral threat assessment processes, and school crisis response procedures
  • Experience working collaboratively with law enforcement or emergency response agencies preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, staff, students, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to assist in developing and implementing safety procedures and training programs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety/security technology systems
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interact positively with students, staff, and families in schools and at community events and other assigned district functions.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of district safety and security personnel, including scheduling, training support, and performance oversight.
  • Serve as the district’s primary liaison with local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, and local emergency management organizations.
  • Coordinate the district’s School Resource Officer (SRO) program, including collaboration with law enforcement agencies, assignment coordination, and communication with building administrators.
  • Cover daily operations in place of SRO’s when needed.
  • Assist district leadership in maintaining compliance with Ohio school safety requirements, Ohio Revised Code, and Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) guidelines.
  • Support the development, implementation, and annual review of district and building-level Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) in accordance with Ohio Revised Code and Ohio School Safety Center guidance.
  • Coordinate and assist with the planning and implementation of required school safety drills, including fire drills, lockdown drills, evacuation drills, and other emergency preparedness exercises in accordance with Ohio law.
  • Assist with coordinating and facilitating the district’s Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams (BTAT) in alignment with Ohio School Safety Center best practices and multidisciplinary team guidelines.
  • Support building administrators and multidisciplinary teams in implementing behavioral threat assessment protocols designed to identify, assess, and respond to potential threats or concerning behaviors.
  • Provide and coordinate safety and emergency response training for district staff related to crisis response procedures, incident command practices, and emergency protocols.
  • Conduct periodic district safety and security assessments of facilities, procedures, and safety systems and report findings and recommendations to district administration.
  • Assist with oversight and coordination of district safety systems including visitor management systems, surveillance systems, access control systems, and emergency communication systems.
  • Support the district in applying for, managing, and implementing safety-related grants, including the Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program and other safety funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate the work of the district Safety Committee, ensuring collaboration among administrators, staff, and community safety partners in reviewing safety procedures and recommending improvements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of family reunification procedures for emergency situations and support district and building training related to reunification protocols.
  • Serve as a first responder and incident leader during emergencies, crises, and critical incidents.
  • Act as the district’s on-site coordinator during high-stress situations, ensuring clear communication and effective response.
  • Support building administrators in crisis decision-making and incident management.
  • Assist in post-incident debriefing, documentation, and continuous improvement planning.
  • Serve as the district point of coordination for the Safer Ohio School Tip Line, assisting with communication and response coordination when concerns are reported.
  • Collaborate with building administrators to address safety concerns, respond to incidents, and maintain safe learning environments.
  • Assist with investigations of safety-related incidents or violations of district policies when directed by district administration.
  • Maintain awareness of current school safety trends, state guidance, and emerging best practices related to school safety and security.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to district leadership regarding safety initiatives, training efforts, safety compliance, and security concerns.
  • Monitor and oversee the district’s video surveillance systems to ensure proper functionality and coverage.
  • Coordinate maintenance, upgrades, and repairs of security camera systems in collaboration with technology staff and vendors.
  • Review and retrieve video footage to support investigations, incident response, and safety assessments.
  • Ensure camera usage and data retention comply with district policy and applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the safety, security, and operations of the Licking Heights Local School District.
