JOB DESCRIPTION:

POSITION: TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT

RESPONSIBLE TO: TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR

JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Related experience preferred
• Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license
• Must have van certification or be able to obtain van certification within 30 days
• Must be able to drive a van if required
• Required to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
• Willing to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Observes all mandatory safety regulations, including daily fuel log and pre-trip prior to leaving school grounds, and obeys all traffic laws.

2. Notifies mechanic immediately in case of mechanical failure.

3. Reports all accidents and follows the Accident Protocol. The accident report must be completed and submitted to the Transportation Supervisor immediately upon return to the transportation department.

4. Monitors and or assists the driver in supervising students and maintains discipline when
students are on the bus/van.

5. Transports only authorized students, including any prearranged changes, and discharges students only at authorized stops. Drivers may need to transport additional students on an emergency basis.

6. Reports discipline problems to the bus driver or to the appropriate principal and Transportation Supervisor.

7. Helps the driver keep assigned bus/van clean.

8. Helps keep to assigned schedule.

9. Exercises responsible judgment at all times.

10. Follows all regulations against smoking and eating on the bus or van.

11. Notifies the Transportation Supervisor when lateness or absence from work is necessary.

12. Completes required daily/monthly reports and submits them to the Transportation Supervisor.

13. Promotes a cooperative and professional attitude among colleagues.

14. Performs such other duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.

15. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
students.

16. Maintains a positive and courteous attitude when dealing with parents and other community members.

17. Participates in in-service training programs as required by law.
