POSITION: Custodian

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor of Facilities and Custodial Services

JOB GOAL: To maintain the facilities in a condition of cleanliness and operating excellence so that students, staff and visitors will be furnished with an attractive and comfortable educational environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain immediate areas around the assigned building exterior doors up to curb to keep them clear of snow, ice and debris, due to the fire code.
  2. Wash interior and exterior windows and remove graffiti as necessary.
  3. Performs regular custodial and heavy cleaning duties in the building.
  4. Empty trash receptables inside and outside doorways daily and keep them clean as needed. Removes trash for the buildings daily.
  5. Assist visiting members of the public who are utilizing the facilities.
  6. Check schedule daily to provide necessary assistance to support curricular and extra-curricular events.
  7. Thoroughly clean all surfaces in restrooms.
  8. Maintain custodial closets in a neat and orderly manner.
  9. Keep inventory of all supplies.
  10. Perform general cleanup – any and all incidents as they arise.
  11. Prepare work orders using the web-based work order system of the district.
  12. Occasionally work from elevated surfaces while conducting overhead cleaning.
  13. Keep all necessary items such as but not limited to windows, air locks, chalk/eraser boards, lockers, furniture, and display cases clean at all times.
  14. Check daily to ensure all doors and windows are locked / unlocked as needed.
  15. Uses cleaning chemicals properly and safely by wearing prescribed protective clothing, masks, and/or rubber gloves, following either written or verbal directions for mixing chemical compounds according to specifications, applying the cleaning chemicals properly on surfaces or items designated for their use, and disposing of residual chemical products as directed or storing and labeling them for future use.
  16. Report any major repair needs or other deficiencies to the supervisor.
  17. Performs specialized custodial services such as floor cleaning and finishing (including stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, extraction, bonneting & top scrubbing, recoating), carpet and upholstery maintenance, cleaning building furnishings, and/or other procedures using specialty cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  18. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or principal.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  5. Work in moderate noise levels.
  6. Work in height levels in accordance with OSHA guidelines.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Supervisor of

Facilities and Custodial Services in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
